Player opt-out: what is stored and how to remove your data
What player data clan.me collects from public server pings, and how players can opt out and have their data removed.
Updated 7 June 2026
clan.me collects player names and UUIDs from public Minecraft server list responses, the same data your Minecraft client sees when you open the multiplayer server list. This article explains exactly what is stored, how it appears on the site, and how players can opt out.
What data is collected?
When clan.me polls a server, the server responds with a sample of currently online player names and UUIDs. This is standard Minecraft server list ping data, publicly visible to anyone who has the server's IP address. clan.me records:
- Username: the display name at the time of the sighting
- UUID: the player's unique Minecraft identifier, used to link sightings across servers and over time
- Timestamp: rounded to the nearest hour for privacy
- Server: which server you were seen on
clan.me does not collect chat messages, inventory, location data, or any gameplay data beyond presence. The plugin (when installed by a server owner) sends additional server-health data but no additional player-identifying information beyond what the server list ping already provides.
How opt-out works
When you opt out, your UUID is added to the opt-out list. From that point:
- Your name and UUID are replaced with "Anonymous" in all public-facing displays, including just-spotted feeds and player roster pages
- Your player profile page returns a 404
- New sightings are still counted for server analytics (player count data stays accurate) but your identity is never shown
- Historical sightings are redacted immediately, not just future ones
If you would like your sighting data fully deleted rather than redacted, email privacy@clan.me with your Minecraft UUID. We will delete all associated rows within 30 days under Article 17 of the GDPR.
How to opt out
Visit clan.me/optout and enter your Minecraft UUID. You can find your UUID at namemc.com or by looking up your username at api.mojang.com.
Opt-out takes effect immediately. No account is required.
For server owners
You cannot opt your server's players out on their behalf, as opt-out is a per-player choice. If your server runs in offline mode, player UUIDs may not be stable and opt-out by UUID may not work reliably. Contact privacy@clan.me if you need to discuss your server's specific situation.
Server owners can remove their server from clan.me using the edit-by-token link. This stops new polls and hides the server from the directory, but does not delete historical player sighting data for opted-in players.
